I’m typing this sitting in my cabin, a few days into a cruise ship booking.
Pleasant room. Great food. Top shelf theater.
In short, all the things you’d expect from a cruise ship gig.
I was first on this cruise line in February of this year and I had a great time. About a week after finishing my first week on the ship, the line, who had never seen me before that week, offered me fourteen weeks. That’s a BIG chunk of work. Here’s the important question: WHY?
Do I bring a HUGE show with cases of equipment?
No. I have 2+ hours of material that fit in my carryon.
Do I do tons of original magic?
No. I perform a few original pieces, but most of my work is based on classics.
Am I incredibly good looking?
No, but it’s very nice of you to ask that. Really. I’m blushing over here.
Am I likable and easy to work with?
Yes! And that’s a big plus, but that’s not why I was booked.
Is my act very funny?
Ding-ding-ding! Yep. That’s why.
Confession: That last answer felt as self-conscious as heck to write. I mean, it feels like bragging, but it’s not. In my shoes I’m about 6’4″. Is that bragging about being tall? No. Just a statement of fact. (And if you’re not that tall, think of me the next time you’re flying coach. Ouch!)
